Career Prospects for Politically Conscious Minds:- If you’re a student with politically conscious mind and seeking admission in undergraduate programs in DU then Political Science is the subject for you. Political Science teacher Meena Bansal who teaches at Kamala Nehru College, says that the students who have participated in school debates, and are sensitive toward political issues and social movements can do well in political science. Last year, the cutoff marks for the Political Science subject went high up to 93%-96% in Hindu College. The lowest cutoff was 65% at Dyal Singh College. Political Science is taught at most of the DU’s colleges and is accessible to students from all backgrounds. Under FYUP Given the bright career prospect of the Political Science, many bright students have been applied for admission to the subject. This brought an increase --from 46 to 50-- in the number of colleges offering the subject as Discipline Course I (Honours or Major), which implies the subject can be studied as DCI, DC II (Minor) and Applied Course. Course Content Discipline I: A total of 20 papers covering colonialism in India, political theory, nationalism in India, constitutional democracy and government in India and comparative governance and politics Discipline II: Six papers covering introduction to politics, women, power and politics, understanding Ambedkar, Gandhi and the contemporary world, human rights in comparative perspective and understanding global politics Applied Courses: These include papers such as your laws, your rights, parliamentary and legislative support, public opinion research and democracy, conflict and peace building. Career Prospects Political Science students can make their way towards law or journalism. They can also join NGOs. Besides, Political Science offers a strong yet highly feasible ground to those aiming at civil services.
