Carina asks My son is 5 years old and in the middle of an Aspergers diagnosis. His psychiatrist has suggested depression and Aspergers but the psychologist he saw before said ADHD and ODD. He was put on vyvanse to help control his impulses at school (he was hitting, spitting, yelling at the teacher, refusing to do school work). Since being on the vyvanse he has had great progress. Since his psychiatrist diagnosed him with depression, he started him on celexa also. All in all, he seems like a happier child and he is doing a lot better in school. Tonight, he was upset and saying that he didnt want to be 5. He wants to be one and go to the same school at his little brother. He also said he didnt like his name (Rylan), because the lowercase L looks like a number one. Also that he didnt want to go to school anymore. And he was legitimately upset about it. Does anyone have experience with your aspie kids and them not wanting to get older? Also, Ive read a lot about gluten free diet for kids with autism. Ive been trying to make that happen for the past few weeks but tonight we had gluten. I think that has something to do with him being emotional tonight. Of course, my husband thinks Im crazy.
