Caring for the land and living sustainably are hallmarks of our culture and tradition in New Mexico. Growing up in a small northern New Mexico community, I learned from my parents, grandparents, and neighbors to care for the land and water that is essential to growing crops and tending to livestock. We have a deep connection to the magnificent lands we are blessed to enjoy throughout the Land of Enchantment, and as we celebrate Earth Day we are reminded of our responsibility to ensure that we preserve and protect our land, air, and water so that future generations may continue to practice the same traditions that have been passed down for years.
