Carl Sagans novel about extraterrestrial intelligence stars Jodie Foster as Ellie. She pursues her passion for astronomy, working with SETI. When contact is made and a machine built according to instructions sent by aliens, Ellie is transported through a wormhole to Vega. She encounters an alien whom she perceives as her deceased father. The ending is inconclusive, which again shows that we cannot seek reality in science fiction.
