Carlo Ancelotti has given his first press conference of the pre-season. The Italian manager praised Cristiano Ronaldo for his attitude and is confident that he will extend his stay at the club. “Everyone knows that Ronaldo is a phenomenon, a great goalscorer. The most important thing for the club is that a player of his calibre behaves like an extraordinary professional. This is particularly positive for the younger players as they see a champion working with this mindset. As far as his new contract is concerned, it’s not my job but I don’t expect it to be a problem,” he said. Real Madrid’s boss refused to talk about any potential reinforcements. “I am very happy with the team. I don’t want to talk about Bale. He is a great player, but out of respect, it’s better to talk about those who are here,” he stated. “I talked to Gonzalo [Higuaín] and I consider it to be a private conversation. I’m happy that he’s here and nothing more,” was all he would say about the Argentine striker. The Italian coach said he was surprised by Dani Carvajal: “I didn’t know much about him, he is a very good right back. He has a lot of intensity.” Regarding his tactical system, Ancelotti said that “the best system is having 11 players who attack when we have the ball and 11 players who defend when we don’t. We have to play attacking football.” At the beginning of the press conference, Ancelotti sent a message of “support and encouragement” to Tito Vilanova. “I’m sad but I know he’s a fighter and that he will continue to fight. I want him to know that the whole team, the club and myself are all on his side. Let’s hope everything goes well.”
