Carol Adams Can I please bring to your attention a very disappointing situation that occurred in Bertram today. You may or may not be aware that Bertram Primary School today held their annual sports carnival. Unfortunately I was unable to attend due to work commitments, but my wife informed me that there was a fantastic turnout of parents showing support for their children on this magnificent day. Unfortunately the day was somewhat soured for many parents as they returned to their cars to find the local ranger had a field day filling their yearly traffic infringement fines quota. For example, $150 for obstructing a footpath? Really? The footpath was still fully accessible. The fact that the council have decided to intentionally target such an event is absolutely despicable. The situation could easily have been remedied if the council ranger had taken a quick walk to the carnivals announcer a mere 100m away and advised that the cars need to be moved. Way to discourage parents from coming and watching/supporting their children on this once a year event!!! As a council you should be encouraging this sort of community sprit. Not fining it. Carol Adams, I implore you to use your position of power to right this wrong. Surely there is something you can do so parents dont need to pay these exorbitant fines??
