Carpet of snow The 270 tourists who were stranded at 17th Mile on JN Road on Wednesday evening because of snow were taken to Gangtok on Thursday afternoon. The tourists who had gone to Baba Mandir, Chhangu Lake (in picture by Prabin Khaling) and Nathu-la in East Sikkim were stranded on their way back to Gangtok. “By 1.30pm all tourists were taken to their respective hotels,” said Sabitri Pradhan, inspector at the 2nd Mile check post. He said no permits were issued on Thursday for the tourist spots because of continuous snowfall. “Permits would be issued once the road is cleared. We cannot say how long it would take,” he said.
