Carrick callout: Day 10 – SEARCH OVER The search is over. David Maguire has been found. It is a time for few words when much could be said. Firstly, our deepest condolences to all the extended Maguire family, his friends and his neighbours. For you it has been an endless ten days. For us in DMRT and our colleagues in the Coast Guard, the Civil Defence, our colleagues from Sligo – Leitrim MR, the local divers and the Garda Sub Aqua Unit it brings a sense of relief that our efforts were successful. Whilst it is utterly heartbreaking for the family we hope that the return of his body will bring an element of closure. I reflect on the words of a poster here in recent days who said: “Its great to see the innate goodness in mankind at work....” as he reflected on the extent of the search. That is something that we have empathy with; it was truly a monumental effort by the whole community of Carrick and as was reflected on at the debrief by the Gardai earlier on; an effort that will not be forgotten for a long time.
