Carrier Operations 1953-54: youtube/watch?v=gq61EV-FqYw This is a video of Task Force 77, a division of The U.S. Pacific Fleet 7, during operations during the Korean War 1950-54. I was in this task force when this video was made by one of the aircraft carrier pilots during operations. I was in the task force for 3 years. This video was made during the last of my three 9 month tours. I would have to say without a doubt that what I experienced during the four years that I proudly served in the U.S. Navy is something I could never have learned from reading a text book, something that has served me well in my life that I will never forget. The comradery among sailor comrades is something incomparable to any other type comradery Ive ever experienced. Being respected as a U.S. Sailor in every foreign port that you go to is quite an experience in itself. Just a few of my experiences while in the Navy was going through boot in San Diego, CA, day and night training launching and recoverying aircraft on an aircraft carrier off the west coast of CA just before going overseas to serve in Korea during the Korean War, 1950-54, being stationed at the Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA and at the Bremerton Naval Base, traveling the west coast from the tip of Baja CA all the way up to Vancouver, CN, going to Hawaii (five times), the Philippines, Japan (Sasebo, Yokosuka, Yokohama, Tokyo), China, crossing the equator, experiencing what its like to be in a typhoon in rough seas (scarry), R&R (rest and recreation) in foreign ports after each 30 day tour out at sea launching and recovering A/C during the Korean War 1950-54, etc. etc. It is a sense of pride and comraderie that can only be experienced first hand. Theres a saying in the Navy Once that salt gets in your system it never leaves. To this day its never left me. Looking at this video is like re-living some of my past Navy experiences in real time. If I could turn the clock back I would proudly serve all over again.
