Caseworkers are excited about this donation of make-up bags we received to distribute to teenage girls on their caseload. Some bags are even sewn from up-cycled jean material! This awesome project was put together by one of our very own foster parents, who fosters teen boys. Here is her story: Ive been fostering (mainly teen) boys for 3 1/2 years now. There are times that I wish I could have more of an impact on all the kids in our community, babies, teen girls, the ones I dont get to directly help on a daily basis. So last February I came up with what I hoped was a unique way to help bless the teen girls in foster care. I wanted to be able to supply each girl with a makeup bag of goodies. Why? Because its something that almost every girl I know (regardless of age) wants to help them feel secure about themselves. I also couldnt imagine being put in to care (possibly without anything) and then having to get up the nerve to ask strangers if they would buy me those items. I began soliciting my family and friends for donations and the response was overwhelming! I received donations from personal friends, a local Avon representative, from the youth group at Peoples Church, Life365, and I had one friend get donations from her Farmers Insurance agent and some of his contacts...we even received a few anonymous donations that Im not even sure how they found out about this...I was given donations of makeup bags and I had one person make jean bags as well...it was very important that we receive new items that we thought the girls would like. There were well over 1,000 items donated. All together, we were able to fill 40 bags and we have enough supplies to fill at least 40 more! My teen boys even got into the act, they helped me inventory and stuff bags with supplies and while doing so one of them said Wow mom, these are going to make the girls feel so pretty!. My husband has been a huge help, toting items in and out of my truck and finding storage space at our house, its really been a joint effort by our community. Now Im imagining what my next project will be and yes, I do plan to continue this one as well :) Best wishes, Mandy Augsburger
