She is, however, faced with a challenge: She is in desperate need of a story for the characters she has developed. Her father Edward*, bored to tears with his job in advertisement, becomes the source of inspiration she has been hoping for. Together, they craft a tale around the heroine VIRGO- a girl made of pure light who possesses mysterious powers and is on a similar path to self-discovery as her creator. What starts out as a small project between a father and his daughter soon becomes a life-changing journey for both of them. When Edward falls terminally ill, Lilly has to find the courage to tell her story by herself- to recognize her father’s reflection in the story he has helped create, and give the world what it needs most: more heroes. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN LILLY (FEMALE) (13-15) A gifted young illustrator who hopes to publish her own comic book. She creates fascinating characters but has trouble building stories around them. Eventually, she asks her father for help and begins to tell the story of Virgo, a heroine made of light whose journey reflects her own. She is a bright, highly inquisitive girl who has an abundance of ideas that she is desperately looking for an outlet for. Restless and impatient, she longs to spend all her time creating, and becomes frustrated with herself when she isn’t. The small things in life mean the world to her- She sees beauty everywhere and is only truly happy when it bleeds into her art. Despite being a classical “messy artist”, she has a graceful way about her that sets her apart from most girls her age and makes her appear quite mature- making the people around her forget that she is still young, and as sensitive and moody as any other teenager. When hurt, she lashes out- and when her entire world comes crashing down, it will take a truly remarkable story to open her eyes to beauty once more. EDWARD* We are currently not holding auditions for this character. VIRGO (FEMALE) (20s) The protagonist of Lilly’s comic book. Created from light and fighting the shadows in a world of darkness, Virgo is an avenging angel battling injustice and cruelty. A reflection of Lilly’s own hopes and fears, she is as insecure and in need of guidance as her creator- she is strong on the surface, but physical strength and super powers aren’t enough when faced with an enemy that literally sucks light and hope out of people. She has to rise from the ashes and discover what it means to be a true hero- and that the most effective power one can have has nothing to do with shooting lightning from one’s finger tips. ROBIN (FEMALE) (30s) Edward’s younger sister and Lilly’s aunt. Edward and her have always been close, but choose not to express their feelings. Growing up, she was always the calmer, more mature child- showing emotion is hard for her, she prefers to hold everything in and keep her well-crafted shield up. When Edward is hospitalized, she tries her best to be there for Lilly, but doesn’t know how—she never had children of her own and is too distant to form a deeper connection. Although she understands Lilly’s need for a caregiver and guidance and wishes she could be that person, she knows that she can’t. Intelligent and intuitive, she finds a way for Edward to help Lilly from beyond the grave. MR. REYNOLDS / THE FOUNDER (MALE) (40s-50s) The head of the advertising agency Edward works for. He is a true perfectionist who won’t allow a single mistake under his watch- often rude and rarely ever showing any understanding for his colleagues’ problems, he is known for being fairly hard to work with. His sense of entitlement combined with his admirable work ethic has gotten him far in his lengthy and highly successful career, but some might say that over the years, he has forgotten that he is dealing with actual people instead of mere numbers and hard facts. As Edward narrates the comic book story for his daughter, Mr. Reynolds morphs into THE FOUNDER- the main villain in Virgo’s world. He appears as a truly despicable, bitter megalomaniac who steals light from people’s lives in order to turn it into pure energy. DR. MADISON (FEMALE) (40s) A senior doctor at the hospital Edward is admitted to. She coldly assesses Edward’s case and delivers the facts to the family without the slightest hesitation. Known for being very upfront, she tends to come directly to the point, no matter how hurtful the news might be. Some might call her tactless, but she takes pride in her ability to separate the private from the professional, and emotions definitely fall into the private category, thank you very much. Ambitious and proud of her accomplishments, she will not allow herself any mistakes. She doesn’t have any family of her own and therefore delivers the “necessary” blows with an almost bitter insensitivity. She is the best at her job, and the only thing that makes her well-maintained façade crumble is the knowledge that she failed- that she lost a patient. ARNOLD (MALE) (30s) Edward’s colleague and an executive working directly under Mr. Reynolds in the same office. In the highly competitive work environment Reynolds encourages, Arnold is looking to impress the higher-ups –Reynolds in particular- whenever he can. He always appears professional and ambitious, but is as self-centered as one can be. He holds Reynolds in high regard and aspires to one day run an office the way he does. He has a one-sided, personal rivalry with Edward and very little understanding for the other man’s tendency to put his family first. In Virgo’s world, Arnold becomes THE FOUNDER’s right hand- a mindless thug whose individuality has been sucked out of him along with the light the founder extracts to create energy. Even with the last of his humanity gone, he remains loyal to his idol.
