Catching up on some beer reviews, since Im sure David is wondering why I havent posted any in a while. I have two I tried a few months ago--Fuel Cafe and Newcastle Cabbie Black Ale--and one I tried tonight, Great Lakes Brewing Co. Christmas Ale, which was part of a specialty gift pack. Fuel Café: This coffee-flavored beer has a creamy dark visual presence that is appropriate: it is brewed with organic coffee. This crisply-thin, yet richly flavorful stout is by far the best representation of a coffee-flavored beer I’ve had, producing immediate coffee notes with distinct cocoa or chocolate undertones. ****1/2 Newcastle Cabbie Black Ale: This visually dark ale has a surprisingly thin mouthfeel and a very subdued flavor. Subtle hints of undeveloped sharpness keep the flavor crisp and balanced but unremarkable. *** Great Lakes Brewing Co. Christmas Ale: A deep orange visual presence deceives the remarkable smoothness and flavorful nature of this ale. Honey overtones are unmistakable but not overpowering. ***1/2
