Catherine Lan (Chiao-Ju Lan) solo exhibition is on view from September 15th (Monday) until October 10th at the Center for Arts Education of New York, featuring Catherine Lan’s self invented 10 works of Shearing Relief Painting,” including the recent Flora Series (4 pieces) , of which some of the works are scheduled for her Exhibition in Beijing next year. Catherine Lan utilizes fashion elements in her works to explore new concepts in painting. The traditional paintings use brushes and paints to make additions onto the canvas, while Catherine Lan draws from Chinese traditional paper-cut folk art technique, using scissors as a brush to subtract on faux fur fabric and go beyond a single cutting method, utilizing depth, shallow, oblique, points and various other cutting methods to create a new form of relief-like painting style.
