Catherine Vanderpool Vandyke (1741-1823). Painted by John - TopicsExpress

Catherine Vanderpool Vandyke (1741-1823). Painted by John Vanderpool in 1787 in Newark. People forget Newark was a colonial city, and a Puritan city further settled by Dutch folks from New York in the 18th century. Cortlandt, Van Rennselaer, Schuyler--they all lived here, too. And next to Cathy Vandyke, is some of her custom-ordered Chinese export porcelain. And four of her six Cary Dunn silver teaspoons. Cause Cathy was a stylin lady. All of these things donated by a descendant in 1921. - Ulysses Grant Dietz, Chief Curator
