Catholic Mass Readings of the Day! THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS (O) Saturday 3 January 2014 ~ Christmas Season 1 Jn 2:29-3-6 (Where are God’s children) Ps 97:1-3-6 (Acclaim the Lord) Jn 1:29-34 I AM THE WITNESS “The Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.” This expression is familiar to us since it is a formulary of the Mass, proclaimed by the priest as he shows the consecrated host just before Holy Communion. Early, in the Gospel, Jesus is revealed as the paschal lamb, the symbolism which the evangelist will use for the paschal events, ~ the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Today’s Gospel tells us that John the Baptist did not know Jesus, yet he could recognize him as ‘the Lamb of God’ and ‘the son of God’ because of the divine revelation he received from God himself. It was the descent of the Holy Spirit that helped him recognize Jesus’ true divinity. Revelation leads to proclamation and proclamation invites one to accept salvation. Blessed Kuriahose Elias Chavra, born in Kerala, (India) devoted his life in contemplation and prayer in order to receive God’s revelation and proclaim it to the people in a simple way. The feast of the Holy Name of Jesus also invites us to reflect on our Christian name and its meaning. Am I ready to accept salvation that is in store for me? Do I allow the power of the Holy Name of Jesus to act in me? ~ Reflection of the Holy Gospel according to John 1:29-34 youtu.be/2bAW0LE76eM?list=PLbIwWtTe1RjvIFIUgAygwRxRD0DYeiv0y
