Catholic Trivia: The reading of the Gospel is the high point of the Liturgy of the Word. The Liturgy itself teaches that great reverence is to be shown to it, since we faithful acknowledge and confess Christ present and speaking to us. According to the GIRM (general instruction of the roman missal) #42, all gestures, movement and posture should bring the faithful more closer to the full participation of the Holy Mass. Although it was not clearly stated in the GIRM, shouldnt it be a sign of reverence and just right to face the ambo while the Gospel is being read? When were having conversation, were facing the person, right? The picture shows how attentive they listen at the sermon at the mount. GIRM reference, nice to read: vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/ccdds/documents/rc_con_ccdds_doc_20030317_ordinamento-messale_en.html
