Cattle to be farmed at sea! Scientist alarmed at the contribution to global warming and climate change caused by methane emissions from bovine animals have come up with a revolutionary new method to farm cattle at sea. In secret trials conducted off the South West coast, a team from BIM and Teagasc have successfully reared a herd of bullocks in a disused salmon farm cage. Cattle are excellent swimmers and because of the constant movement required to keep afloat the resultant meat is very lean with an almost zero fat content. Methane released by the animals now disperses underwater and the resulting rise in sea temperature aids in the rapid growth of the herd. Fed daily with baled hay dropped into the cage there is zero pollution to local shellfish and in the event of the cattle escaping they swim ashore and find their way to the nearest field to graze. There is no chance of them breeding with wild salmon stocks and the waste material from the cattle pens falls to the seabed and results in huge growth rates in Scallops, Mussels and any other shellfish near the site. The growing season begins on April 1st every year and applications for funding are now available
