Cavani joins PSG... Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain have today confirmed the signing of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani. The announcement ends one of the summer’s longest transfer sagas, and gives the French side one of the most sought after strikers in all of Europe. Cavani was sensational for Italian Serie A outfit Napoli last season, picking up 29 goals in league play. Cavani’s signing will be a big boost for new manager Laurent Blanc as the French manager replaces Carlo Ancelotti at the helm of France’s biggest club. Blanc will be hoping that Cavani’s goals boost the club to a successful defense of their Ligue 1 crown. The French club confirmed that Cavani has signed a five year deal with the Parisians, and will wear the number 9 jersey. If Cavani can pick up more titles with PSG, he’ll add to his recent international success. The striker helped guide Uruguay to the 2011 Copa America crown, and more recently impressed at the Confederations Cup, despite his country’s fourth placed finish. “The transfer of Edinson Cavani is further proof of the club’s ability to attract the best players in the world. The player was seduced by the club’s sporting project and is delighted to be joining an ambitious side, impatient to take on new challenges. We are especially happy to present such a hugely coveted player of immense talent to our supporters,” Paris Saint Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said at the player’s unveiling.
