Ce La Luna Mezzo Mare may have been the first song i heard as a baby, but i know it has always been one of my favorite songs. i cant believe that i remembered every word as i listened to Keeley Smith. i was always amused with the lyric baccala, that is cod fish in tomato sauce. why it is in a song is ridiculous, especially this one. the title means Theres a moon in the middle of the sea and it deals with a woman who wants to get married & she asks her mother to find her a husband. i know, but its an old Sicilian/Italian folk song. there is different translation called Lazy Mary that my family probably was more fond of because, well, we had a crazy Aunt Mary who kept us guessing & in stitches all the time! my grandmother swears the hospital switched babies on her, but Mary was born in the back bedroom and Nana said she was the only one pregnant in the room!!!
