Celebrating human rights day with one of the worlds top human rights official - UN Special Rapporteur for the rights of indigenous peoples, my friend Vicky Tauli-corpuz. Vicky and I joined hands and became the lead negotiators of the Philippines in the REDD+ negotiations where the Philippines became one of the most influential (both of us became chairs so we would switch where other became the negotiator while one was chairing) delegation and was critical in enshrining, for the first time in a climate agreement, human rights norms. Now that Philippines has decided to take the lead in pushing human rights text in the Paris Agreement, we will miss Vicky although she will advocate this also together with other special rapporteurs. By he way, the Igorot touch in my barong is courtesy of Vicky who gave it to me last year so I could wear the barong for the Lima talks.
