Cerastes gasperettii gasperettii, southern Jordan, May 23rd 2014. As opposed to C. g. mendelssohni that I am more familiar with from Israel, which is always absent of horns, in Jordan, eastwards of Wadi al Arabah there is different subspecies of C. gasperettii - that exhibits also a horned morph. It was our first night in Jordan, and a rather windy one at that. We went out, of course, to search for reptiles, and found some geckos but no snake activity whatsoever. On our way back to camp we noticed the faintest of Cerastes tracks, and after a while of trying to follow the tracks that had been almost completely erased by the wind - we were lucky enough to find this beauty...
