Cerberus: Reanalysis (Sounds like the title of a Sci-Fi B-movie...) Heres my updated perspective on this Cerberus demodulator circuit Ive been experimenting with and posting about: It will be effective and useful for a tone-activated device e.g. radio-controlled solar-powered radio beacon with extremely low power consumption, if it were implemented such that a higher-current circuit would be triggered by a specific digital code, which is in line with the intent behind its invention, but TIL it actually IS possible to implement FFT on an Arduino, if you use code adapted to the memory limitations, and considering the power I would save and the sensitivity I would lose by implementing this with an Arduino for radio-control, I determined that it makes more sense to implement FFT on the Arduino to accomplish the same end: FSK-demodulation. I will probably still implement Cerberus in radio-triggered propagation beacons, eventually... Its on my bucket list. Accordingly, Im going to implement a segment of this circuit -- one op-amp filter and one bistable multivibrator -- to effect a tone-activated interrupt request which will initiate FFT-based decoding of an audio signal, which can extract a signal from a lower signal-to-noise ratio and effectively decode an MFSK signal with closer-spaced frequencies. The AD9850 module can be used to directly generate FSK-modulated RF signals up to ~40MHZ, but I will probably use it to generate the audio-frequency signals, coupling it to a UHF (70cm) transceiver, perhaps an assimilated BaoFeng UV-5R, in order to use smaller antennas for the portable data link to the solar boat.
