Cesar, Bo and Luke Update... We are home from our late - TopicsExpress

Cesar, Bo and Luke Update... We are home from our late afternoon appointment with our primary care doctor. Cesar was finally able to have the sutures removed from his lipoma removal surgery. The site has healed and the mild fluid accumulation has subsided. Another few days of warm compresses and we should be good. Bo and Luke had a great first meeting with the doctor and the ret of the staff, providing them with plenty of entertainment. Bo weighed 35.0 lbs and Luke 34.6 lbs...both up from around 27 and 26 lbs. The doctor said they are maybe one or two pounds shy of a perfect weight, and is totally happy with where they are at, especially considering where they were when they arrived. We did some calorie calculations and I have been feeding them about 2 extra cups a day, which has helped them gain the weight they needed. They received a couple of vaccines today, and we have a couple of boosters and then we will be complete with that. Aside from their vision and hearing impairments, he says they are very healthy!! He did a brief assessment of vision and suggested that we see the ophthalmologist in the next month or two to see if we can get an answer to the cause...which of course was already on our to-do list. There are varying opinions about when to neuter great danes, which we discussed with the doctor. In his opinion, whenever we are ready. I am going to consult with various members of our medical team, and review more medical studies before we make a final decision. When they are neutered they will also have their gastropexy procedures. This is an elective surgery that reduces the risk of stomach torsion in the event of bloat, a very common occurrence in danes. Basically it involves attaching the stomach to the ribcage. I will explain more when it comes time. The Duke Boys are THRIVING!!
