Chairman Goodlattes statement on the recent delay on patent reform in the Senate: “It is extremely disappointing to hear that the Senate has once again delayed action on legislation to combat the ever increasing problem of abusive patent litigation. “Abusive patent litigation is inflicting serious harm on American businesses – large and small. With that in mind the House took action and with overwhelming bipartisan support and the support of the White House, passed the Innovation Act back in December. Unfortunately, we have only seen delay after delay come out of the Senate. The Innovation Act, which was publicly vetted through multiple Congressional hearings and discussion drafts and has the support of 325 members of Congress and the President, should serve as a bipartisan roadmap for the Senate Judiciary Committee. Effective patent reform legislation requires the careful balance that was achieved in the Innovation Act and so I urge the Senate to work with us on this issue instead of closing doors to meaningful patent reform.”
