Chairperson of MISA-Botswana, Modise Maphanyane, has condemned a decision by government to stop the Sunday Standard from publishing material concerning the #DCEC’s investigation of corruption allegation against the head of the #DIS. Maphanyane said this is tantamount to interfering with the editorial independence of the Sunday Standard. The Press Council of Botswana Chairperson, Tshireletso Motlogelwa, also said it was unprecedented for journalists to be gaged in such a manner. Motlogelwa said that will have the effect of paralysing investigative journalism in the media fraternity. Both MISA Botswana and the National Amalgamated Local Central Government and Parastatal Workers Union, say they will file a court application asking for the decision to gag the paper to be reversed. The application will be filed on Friday, July 4th.
