Chamber News Feed: Somerset County, NJ: (FAR HILLS, NJ) Police officers and firefighters saved a deer that nearly drowned after falling through the cover of a swimming pool at a Far Hills home on Saturday, police said. Around 1 p.m., police were dispatched to a Lake Road home, where they found a six-point buck trapped in the water and becoming exhausted trying to escape the pool, Police Chief Kenneth Hartman said. Concerned the deer would drown, the responding officers sought assistance from the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department, the chief said. First responders used the cover as a makeshift net to lift the deer out of the pool and set him free, Hartman said. The chief praised detective Christopher Kocur and officer Curtis Mulch, as well as the volunteer firefighters, for doing a great job rescuing the buck. Now that deer mating season is underway, the deer population tends to be much more active, which means homeowners and motorists will likely encounter the animal more than other times of year, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Just last week, a 36-year-old Hillsborough man died after his motorcycle collided with a deer in Montgomery. Your Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce Works for You!
