He might never won another race, let alone another championship,” it went. Tony Schumacher paid no attention to the talk. That defiance helped him win two more since then, including his second Nov. 16 with equally innovative tuner Mike Green. What the gossipers didn’t know was that Johnson gave a parting endorsement to his successor, Green. That assured Schumacher that he would continue to be competitive. (Schumacher has won eight Top Fuel titles with three different crew chiefs: one with Dan Olson, five consecutive ones with Johnson, and now two with Green.)
