Changing Guns Because I am changing guns (from my old warhorse the Beretta 92 to my new plaything the Stock 2) I figured I would write up a little bit about the process. I did get some questions about it. 1. Talk to people that know what is going on with the new gun. You need to know what spare parts you need, what breaks, how to fix it, how to take the gun apart, and so on. There is no better person to ask than people that have been using that gun for a long time. Every gun has issues and the sooner you know about them the better. Don’t be blindsided. Get the shit you need and figure out how it is supposed to work. 2. Buy 2 Buy 2 of the same thing. One is for practice and one is for matches. USPSA shooters wear guns out. Don’t wear out your match gun, do it to a practice gun. 3. Test your shit Make sure your gun works. Shoot it a bunch. Chronograph it. When you are done with all of that, take it apart, clean it, and do it all again. Double check your gun. Any issue is a potential match ender, so don’t ignore malfunctions. 4. Test it again. If you make any changes to your equipment setup, test it again. 200 rounds of your match load through your clean match gun is about the minimum I would go to deem the gun serviceable. If you cant get the gun to run without a hiccup then you cant use it in a match yet. 5. Dryfire Dryfire the shit out of your new gun. Get used to it. Get comfortable with it. I am still working on this stuff with my Stock 2. I just barely got it to step 4 before area 5 and I am not into the dryfire phase. I am anticipating a much better year due in part to having a better gun.
