Channeling Vinnie Last cab ride before I start walking again. It - TopicsExpress

Channeling Vinnie Last cab ride before I start walking again. It was a long one, from Burgos to Hontanas (about 30kms - 50 Euros) but I didn´t think it best that my first day back on the Camino was close to 20 miles. The spirit is willing... the body might need a little warm up! So, I am here in this tiny village at the beginning of the Meseta (long and flat)...and initially, it´s always odd when you are the first one to arrive...especially with new shoes! (but I´m working on that.) Everyone knows each other by now, and the support system is unreal. Most know that my shoes were taken, that my legs hurt... and everyone has a story that is equally as challenging. Speaking of my new shoes... I was sitting outside my alburgue this morning, (waiting to check in) when I realized that, with my new walking ¨shoes¨, spandex leggings, and leaner body... I very much resemble a man that was in my life a number of years ago. Vinnie. He rode bikes... a lot. And I used to tease him about his ¨clicky¨shoes and his spandex. He really was lovely. I don´t feel ¨lovely¨right now, but I definataly feel fit. Anyway, I digress, Part of the quiet time I have is sorting through the relationships I´ve had. Who owned what, what part each person played... and today, in Spain, I´m ready and willing to say - ës bueno¨. If I hadn´t known and loved ¨Vinnie¨ I wouldn´t have had that moment this morning that made me smile in recollection. A real smile, an actual LOL. I looked at how ridiculous I appeared to myself... ME in clicky shoes that make me look like I ride bikes (as if)...But I love my new shoes, and I am trying not to fall into fear regarding blisters - we shall see how they do when I get to hills of Galacia outside of Santiago. But that is almost 400kms away... anything can happen between then and now! It´s almost time to check in, claim our bunks, take a shower, and shop for an evening meal. There are 2 tiendas here. That means, 2 places that sell tomatoes, bananas and bread. OH lest we forget, Jamon! (A vegitarian is likely to starve to death here). One of the ladies I am walking with hasn´t eaten ham in decades... guess what she is having for dinner!?! And for my friend Chaun... who just watched the movie ¨The Way¨and is inspired to embark upon this pilgrimage, all I can say is, that it is harder than Martin Sheen ever made it look. For the most part, he always looked fresh and rested. That is SO not the case. We are weathered pilgrims, limping along, encouraging eachother... even though we are sick to death of the same blue shirt every damn day! It´s the evening meals, the morning cafe con leches, and changing clothes in a room full of strangers that is bonding us in a ¨Way¨that is undescribable. TGIF everybody... I walk tomorrow ... Buen Camino B
