Chapter 6:31 P.M. … and then sirens interrupted my unlawful transaction with the well-dressed man who wore the expensive gray suit and high-priced brown shoes. Law enforcement sped in my direction. I shivered and prepared to flee the scene. Winter drizzle fell from dark skies, quarter sized rain drops dripping from ice cubes on this colorless night. The sun had abandon this world long before five o’clock in the afternoon. This con game was over. Hawaiian Gardens police were coming to take me away. The sirens called my name as they came closer, as if i were there destination. Closer. Brows furrowed, the well-dressed man made fists and frowned toward the wails, breathing frantic, grimaced as he opened and closed his right hand, his knees bent, prepared to sprint back to his luxury car. The rich black man had also experienced the sudden heat that came from fear, from fight or flight. Closer. Closer. I asked, “Are you with the police? Is that what this is?
