Characteristics of the Korean People II Honorific Forms in Korean - TopicsExpress

Characteristics of the Korean People II Honorific Forms in Korean Language Korean language is expressed either in honorific form or in common form. Honorific forms are used to the elderly, people with higher status than the speaker or anybody else who is not an acquaintance. Some Koreans rudely speak in common forms to young people or to foreigners, which is not recommended at all and should not be copied. When people become very friendly, they agree to speak in common forms to each other. Deligence Most Koreans are very diligent. They are used to finishing their work as soon as possible. Some scholars find it originated from agricultural habits repeated for thousands of years: in temperate climates as is Korea, only diligent work in spring and summer can guarantee the harvest in fall. This kind of diligence sometimes has negative side effects. They push and hurry too much, and ignore other important factors such as efficiency or safety for the sake of speed. One of the words foreigners hear most often in Korea is Pali Pali (hurry, hurry).
