Charles Ives: Halloween (1906) Ives wrote of this work, It is a take-off of a Halloween party and bonfire - the elfishness of the little boys throwing wood on the fire, etc, etc... it is a joke even Herbert Hoover could get. To illustrate the growing bonfire, Ives has the strings enter progressively, in different keys, with oddly placed accents. From a technical point of view, Ives considered Halloween to be one of his best compositions. Music Hallowe’en by Eva Gruesser, Joel Sachs, Mia Wu, Beverly Lauridsen, Rachel Evans, Cheryl Seltzer
