Charles had a PET Scan this past Thursday and we got the results - TopicsExpress

Charles had a PET Scan this past Thursday and we got the results the next day. He was pain free for a couple of months, but his Xalkori medication came 3 days late about 2 months ago. Ever since then, he has been in progressive pain. The PET Scan results show that the Lung Cancer has gone into his bones. Not all his bones. It is in his right shoulder and his pelvis area. The doctor has ordered a new medication and when it comes in, he will stop the Xalkori. Charles has not been able to gain any weight no matter how hard he tries eating. He keeps getting sick vomiting and dry heaves at any time and it may be from the Xalkori. We need all the prayers and positive thoughts we can get, that this new medication will work and have only minor side effects, if any! To reiterate, he does not have bone cancer. He has lung cancer in his bones in two areas. There is a big difference. Just like he does not have skin cancer. He had (and still has a little) Lung Cancer on his skin. They have gotten the pain level down to about a 4 (out of 1 - 10). The doctor will keep adjusting his medication until he gets Charles pain under control once again. For anyone who would like to read more about this subject: lungcancer.about/od/typesoflungcance1/a/Lung-Cancer-With-Bone-Metastases.htm I copied and pasted the Prognosis, below. Charles has adenocarcinoma and no fractures. Prognosis The median survival –- that is, the amount of time after which 50% of people are alive and 50% have passed away -- is sadly less than 6 months. Survival is somewhat higher for women, those with adenocarcinoma, people with only one bone metastasis, and individuals who do not have any fractures. That said, some people have survived and done well for many years following a diagnosis of lung cancer with bone metastases.
