The grant will support the hiring of eight officers. It was awarded by the Department of Justice Office of Community Orient Policing Services. The second grant is for $227, 950 and it will be used to hire two DUI enforcement officers. This grant was awarded by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The third grant is for $42,097 and will be used to enhance the department’s violence reduction initiatives. Specifically, this grant will enhance the Friday Night Lights initiative and expand the program by adding educational segments dealing with youth engagement in problem identification, analysis and solutions. This grant will provide support for 2-years. It was also awarded by the DOJ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Chief Greg Mullen said these grants, and the initiatives they support, will assist us in continuing our positive crime reduction and community building efforts.
