Charlie Haden (August 6, 1937 – July 11, 2014) - Grândola Vila Morena. Charles Edward Charlie Haden (August 6, 1937 – July 11, 2014) was an extraordinary American jazz double bass player, known for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, pianist Keith Jarrett, and his Liberation Music Orchestra, a group he co-led with pianist Carla Bley. The Ballad of the Fallen is a jazz album by bassist Charlie Haden, recorded in 1982 and released in 1983. The album was voted Jazz album of the year in Down Beat magazines 1984 critics poll. Haden and Bley also placed first in that 1984 polls Acoustic Bass and Composer categories, respectively. The album is in fact the second by Hadens Liberation Music Orchestra, the follow-up to their 1969 Liberation Music Orchestra. Carla Bley, Don Cherry, Michael Mantler, Paul Motian, Dewey Redman, and Haden himself reappeared in the LMOs new incarnation, together with six new members.
