Charm Bracelets It is thought that even Neolithic hunters carried trinkets – charms – for good luck. Charms, amulets, little figurines and pendants have been worn throughout history and by different cultures to protect the wearer from evil spirits and/or to bring good luck. The first imperial form evidence we have of people wearing charms as jewellery was found in the tombs of the Pharaohs. Archaeologist rescued charm bracelets along with elaborate jewellery made in gold and silver and embedded with precious gems. Christians used a small ‘fish’ charm as a religious symbol and the Greeks and Romans wore charms out of respect for their Gods. Greek women used charm bracelets to exhibit the wealth of their husbands. Queen Victoria loved charms and her interest in them made the charm bracelet a luxurious fashion accessory of the time. In the 1960’s the charm bracelet became extremely popular again and has not lost it population since. You can see celebrities such as Victoria Peckham, Jennifer Aniston, Cheryl Cole, Sienna Miller, Kirsten Dunst, Madonna, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Simpson (among others) and our very own Kate Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge and mother to the future King of England all sporting their own charm bracelet.
