Cheat grass (fox tails) are a huge problem this time of the year! - TopicsExpress

Cheat grass (fox tails) are a huge problem this time of the year! Lulu came in to us with them all over her and especially in between her toes. The middle picture is what it looks like growing (it hopefully looks familiar) and the last picture is what her feet looked like after they were treated at the vet. These seeds are sharp and can burrow into the skin and cause major discomfort and infection. Most of the time animals have to be sedated or put under general anesthesia to be treated. Please make sure your dogs stay out of the cheat grass when they are out walking, hiking, etc and be sure to check their feet and bodies for it on a regular basis. Please check your outside cats on a daily basis as well. You will save a lot of money if you can get the seeds out before they get under the skin. We were able to get Lulu the veterinary care she needed because of donation money so a big thank you to all who donate to us! And because we were able to get her fixed up (thanks to you) she was able to find a new home and was adopted yesterday!
