Check out Center for Community Advocacy in Off 68! Aquarium receives award from Center for Community Advocacy The Center for Community Advocacy, 22 W. Gabilan St., Salinas, will hold its 18th annual “Dia de Los Muertos” tardeada (afternoon party), Sunday, Nov. 3, 4:30 pm at the University Center, California State University Monterey Bay honoring the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Center for Community Advocacy will also present the Sam Karas Farm worker Leadership Award. The Monterey Bay Aquarium invests deeply in the well-being of our community by providing a variety of free educational programs and free admissions for low-income families. The Center for Community Advocacy has much to celebrate. CCA has completed yet another year of training farm workers in leadership roles that enable them to negotiate with their landlords for improvements in their housing units. Those same skills have empowered these farm worker leaders to become purveyors of preventive health information at their housing sites and teach farm worker parents to read in Spanish.
