I have decided this year to take on a challenge to raise money for charity not something I’ve really done before so please keep reading for more information! The event is called the ‘BEN NEVIS CHALLENGE’ actionforcharity.co.uk/eventdetailsnew2.php/urlsearch/Ben-Nevis-Charity-Challenge-2014 Colleagues at my work have decided to enter a number of teams (teams include 4 members) to complete this challenge, 2 of these teams of which I am one will be doing this to raise money for Cancer Research UK. On 7th June 2014 myself and a team of three others will start the day at 6 am in Fort William Scotland the first part of our challenge is to ascend and descend Ben Nevis the UK’s Highest Mountain. As if that wasn’t enough of a challenge we’ll immediately don our cycling gear and grab our bikes for the next part of the challenge, a 15 mile cycle which will take us to the banks of loch lochy. There we’ll disembark and hop into Canadian canoes for the 3rd part of the challenge we’ll canoe a 3km circuit of Loch Lochy. For the Final Leg of the challenge we’ll get back on the bikes for a further 10 mile cycle back to the Fort William and cross finish line! Oh and just to add to the intensity of it all this IS a race!! I’m both looking forward to and dreading this! At this moment in time I’m not in the physical condition to complete the above so the challenge actually starts from now in training for this event!! I’d just like to add that I have never hiked up a mountain higher than Rivington Pike (about ¼ of the height of Ben Nevis), I haven’t ridden a bike in about 9 years and I have only ever canoed once whilst in school so I have a lot of work ahead of me!!! As mentioned briefly above we are raising money for Cancer Research UK which is a cause close to the hearts of all of us on the team. All of us as have had somebody close to us battle the disease at some point, some of these friends and family members have successfully beaten the disease others have unfortunately lost the battle. There probably aren’t any people In the UK who haven’t been affected in some way directly or indirectly by the disease!!! We have our teams reserved and they are all being registered on Monday 20th January, there will shortly a Facebook page set up where hopefully all of our friends and family will join in to offer good wishes and hopefully make a donation to help us raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
