Check out the live feed of our kids participating in our Day of Code at cksvt.org! The Hour of Code is a program sponsored by code.org. It is designed to introduce students (old and young) to programming, debunk stereotypes about who can code, and get the students interested in learning more. December 8-14 has been designated as the official Hour of Code week. CKS will join people all across the world who will be logging into code.org and solving problems by writing simple lines of code. On Thursday, December 11th, CKS will have a special Day of Code. We will have students in grades 3-8 coding all day in one hour shifts. There will be a live webcast of students coding from our CKS lobby throughout the day at cksvt.org. We hope that this will be a stepping stone into deeper and more complex coding projects. In addition to becoming an official partner with the Tarrant Institute for Innovative Education at UVM earlier this year, the Hour of Code is another tangible expression of Christ the King School’s commitment to enrich student experience and learning through technology. As we help our students to prepare for a 21st century work force, experiences like these, and the equipment, training and teacher professional development provided by Tarrant, will be vital to student success at CKS and beyond. The webcast of our students coding today can be viewed at cksvt.org starting at 9:00 am and running until 2:00 pm. Those who choose to sponsor this project can make tax deductible donations in any amount can click on the link on the page. We are asking anyone who is passionate about technology and coding to consider sponsoring a student for an hour. All donations, in any amount, received during the Day of Code will contribute to our Annual Campaign, but will be earmarked for the purchase of a Chromebook for each teacher in pre-school to 8th grade, the first step in bringing dynamic technology-integrated lessons to the classroom–and the donations will be matched by the Pomerleau Family Foundation! If each student hour received a $100 sponsorship it would generate $5,500 of support to purchase Chromebooks and other equipment, although donations in any amount are welcomed and appreciated! This project will be a fun learning experience for our students and, hopefully, generate some excitement and help to provide training and equipment for our teachers to better to support our students as we enter into a very promising and fruitful relationship with the Tarrant Institute for Innovative Education.
