Check out this great Tuesday Tip from Esynchro! esynchro Tuesday Tip! August 5, 2014 Visual learning- learning by watching or mimicking - is not only a good skill, it is a good determinant of success in sports. We all are born with a genetic predisposition to mimic those around us, in fact the drive begins in the womb; a trait that shapes our actions, behaviors and beliefs. In sports as in many aspects of life, one can consciously mimic others’ actions to learn skills and to improve. Often, the best way to learn is to copy someone else. In synchro, swimmers watch coaches demonstrate on land and repeat the same motions of the arms in sculling or the legs in movements. Or, swimmers watch another swimmer and copy the movements. This is one factor that contributes to long term success of a club or even a country. One good swimmer or group of swimmers creates a great model for the rest. This week, watch a routine of someone else, preferably a routine that scores better than yours, and learn it- or part of it. Copy not only the moves but how they do it- the techniques, the posture, the extension, the propulsion, etc. If you cannot see exactly how something is done, use your imagination. How do you imagine they are doing it? Work together as a group. If one of your teammates gets a specific move or skill, watch them do it and then try it. Mimicking someone else is the best “coaching” tool. Here is a link to the 2013 Russian Technical Team. TRY IT!!! You will be amazed at what you can learn and how you can improve!
