Check this vibe out. Im in the hostel in Dublin ......and this young guy is rolling a joint...........I say to him Thats stupid.......he looks at me and...........you know, at 50 years of age I don;t want to be jaded...........but man I seen it all before and some............so he does the old resigned shrug affecting lack of energy to fight and says Oh you know, its not a drug..........................Well no, of course it isnt..............I mean 100s of fine legal minds who have legislated against its use because they havent been stoned themselves and have been able to observe the damage it does to people over decades............you know, the psychosis and the inability to function and the inability to form a coherent sentence without referring to youth culture and MTV sound-bite culture and saying well, you know, it;s self medicating or its to help you relax......really, I didnt know that....I mean you cant imagine that I was born in a vaccuum since the 1960s but the arrogance of youth dictates that they are in a position to or entitled to tell people things that theyve heard AD NAUSEUM for decades.............. so I look at him and think Well, if your seniors have decided its a drug then who are you to say otherwise.......but instead I look at him and wonder if hes one of the predatory smokers who doesnt get stoned himself or gets others stoned and giggles at how funny it is to see a human being trying to function devoid of cognitive function.............and then Im seeing a clip from Pulp Fiction with Uma Thurman making the square sign and he starts to try to talk to me asking me where Im from..............I guess its some sort of right of passage to have to submit oneself to the strictures of fashion which at the time seem so liberating and yet seen from the perspective of a functioning mind reveal so often that the person is just a puppet or being played all the while believing sincerely that they areunique and an individual..........and I wonder if lending him some advice about personal experience is going to fall on deaf ears..........think back.......age 20/25 and some aging hippy type.......which is presumably how I look to him, offering unsolicited advice about wasting time and money and allowing music with the structure of nursery rhymes or watching shiny bright colourful objects or lightforms entertain one when theres a world outside and other human beings to interact with.................so I think the better of it............and then I wonder if therea another right of passage - hes on the Im a rebel trip and I might be on phase two which might be to be played oneself into being reactionary..............they say that the most right wing people are often the most likely to have lived alternative lives...........I mean look at Steve Jobs.....he famously tripped out on LSD and had himself a vision of the world and neural networks and what became the internet and then went onto form Apple and made himself a billionaire and became a part of the establishment...........so the circle seems to turn somewhat and I wonder who the real players are and who the real played ultimately are...............Im certainly precious about my own mind and very keen not to feel cross-contaminated by feeling contact high from other people..........name of the hostel? Well then thats the million dollar question...............don;t see that putting him in a jail cell overnight is going to make one iota of difference..............but would be good if people didn;t feel the need to pretend to hide their contraband activity all the while expending energy on actually ensuring that you notice..............watch the eyes. they give it all away unmasked.....................not the accent too and how it starts in a Latin vein......Spanish to Hispanic to Italian and then whehey it becomes Yugoslavian and then back to Portuguese.....and a hint of French and an hint of Irish and a hint of English............
