Cheese & Wind.......and 23 days to go!! Tis a windy, rainy day here in the village of Termignon. I escaped to lower levels yesterday evening to avoid the snow up high. Walked into Termignon this morning and called in at Hotel La Turra for caffeine. Ended up being looked after for a fine lunch by David and Severine, who recently jumped from corporate life in northern France to owning a small hotel in the Alps. Before the sun ran away up in the Vanoise, I found this sign at Refuge Col de Palet indicating 23 days for mediterr année. Why did did I plan a year?! That night in the winter room of the refuge I shared good conversation with 5 young Frenchmen trekking for the weekend although I only listened when conversation turned to the relative merits of Beaufort versus Abondance cheese. All I do know is that after a surfeit of Beaufort fromage I had the worse case of wind. Left me wondering if this has anything to do with the Beaufort Scale for wind speed?
