The England striker came off the bench to help David Moyes’ men seal an impressive opening day 4-1 win at Swansea, but his body language during and after the match suggested he remains far from happy at Old Trafford. Chelsea have so far failed in two bids to land their man, and Moyes and the club’s board are adamant Rooney is going nowhere. Privately it is thought Rooney has now accepted he will be staying with the Premier League champions, for this season at least, but that will not stop Chelsea lodging one last move to get their man. Jose Mourinho is ready to up his last offer, believed to be around the £27m mark, substantially to £40m to test United’s resolve. And Rooney’s England colleague Frank Lampard admits the chance to link up with the 27-year-old at club level is something he would relish. ‘I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That’s a decision for them and Wayne to come to,’ Lampard said. ‘We’re going into the season strong, but if the manager wants to add another player we all hope he gets his man.’
