Chennai to be granted special overseas status to improve India’s dismal overseas record Published on March 6, 2014 by Abhishek As a desperate measure to improve India’s performance away from home, BCCI has unanimously agreed to grant ‘overseas’ status to Chennai. Under the current proposal all of India’s matches played and won in Chennai will be counted as overseas victory. This is supposed to drastically improve the woeful overseas record of India, specially, in last 3 years, wherein they have failed to win a single test match away from home. MS Dhoni “Thank you BCCI” A committee comprising N.Srivanasan, Rajiv Shukla, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shashtri, and Duncan Fletcher reached the decision yesterday. Sources indicate, the committee considered various revolutionary and unorthodox ideas to improve India’s performance. There were talks of granting Test status to Afghanistan or Kenya with India having exclusive rights to play themat their home, but was shelved given recent performances by Afghans. Rumor is, BCCI committee considered forcing new rules like maximum speed limit for deliveries, ‘Suresh Raina one bouncer per year’ rule, one dip one hand out rule while Indians bowl, and also providing two dismissals to talented batsmen like Rohit Sharma. However, the board ultimately settled on the granting of special overseas status as it would serve both short term and long term goals. Faking news had an opportunity to chat with Gavaskar who mentioned “Well, this is a very very sensible move by the BCCI. Chennai has often been a very difficult place to play cricket in given the heat and humidity and they have this knowledgeable crowd which often supports the opposing team as well. So it is just natural justice that wins here are given as much value as any other win in say England or Australia. And by the way did I forget to mention the supreme talent of Rohit Sharma.” Srinivasan was questioned about how this new status changes the nationality of TN players like Aswin and Dinesh Karthik, he replied, “Dinesh is not a cricketer, he is just a cricket enthusiast who sometimes borrows Dhoni’s gloves and enters the field. Didn’t you see his keeping? As to other TN players, this overseas status change only applies to the Chepauk stadium and not the whole state. If anything it only enhances their reputation further of having proved themselves on foreign soil.” MS Dhoni was not available to chat as he was off to some ad shoot, however, it is a wild rumor, that, he was working on modifying his responses to future defeats in Chennai as his usual excuse for defeat in India like ‘the pitch really slowed down’ and the ‘four fielders rule does not work in subcontinent’ will not have the same impact
