Cherishing Wisdom: A Black man named Michael Phillips was recently released from jail after being falsely accused of raping a white girl in 1990. A DNA sample – not employed during his arrest and sentencing - cleared him. In a statement after his release, Mr. Phillips said: “The bigger picture is Black men have been marginalized for years, and I’m tired of that. I take that very personal,” he says, “We [Blacks] can offer things to the world, and yet we have people in power that want to keep us in our positions that don’t allow us to present those talents.” Hello-oo ‘people in power’ - Google, Linkedin, Yahoo, Twitter and – of course - Facebook… Now I know you all are making [in a collective sigh] the specious argument, “We can’t find qualified Black people…” That baseless position has been employed time immemorial. But, for the sake of your collective arguments – whatever they each may be – why not engage high schools in urban areas and historically Black universities in career advancing internships and programs that would tailor potential applicants in a manner that better suits your utility?
