Chicago Tribune Endorses Fran Hurley! Congrats Fran . . . 35th District: Freshman Rep. Fran Hurley, a community activist who got her start in the 19th Ward Democratic organization, has earned a second term. She is a no-nonsense legislator who will challenge party orthodoxy. An example: Hiking the minimum wage, she says, could hurt small businesses in her district. She would support a rise in the minimum wage only if it included protections for those businesses. She would not extend the 2011 income tax hike but is open to creating a graduated income tax. Republican Victor Horne, a government poultry inspector, describes himself as the only black conservative on his block, in his church and at work. We appreciate his thoughtful approach to lowering taxes and shrinking government, but he doesnt make a strong case to overthrow Hurley. She is endorsed.
