Chief Petty Officers, I wanted to take a moment to share a few words with you and let you know how much I appreciate your service. Ive been the MCPON for about a year and I must admit it has been a vertical learning experience. This past year has flown by - faster than any year of my career. What I have enjoyed the most has been spending time with our Sailors; speaking with them, learning from them and getting to know them. It has been my observation that because of the leadership each of you provide on a daily basis, todays Sailors are the best we have ever had. Likewise, our CPO mess is better than any time in our history. Thats the way it is supposed to work! We gain the wisdom of the past and couple it with our own experience to build a better future. If we are to remain the worlds greatest Navy, we must continue to retain the best and brightest Sailors and train our reliefs. Since 1893 the Chief Petty Officer has played a vital role leading and developing our Sailors and ensuring they are ready for any challenges we may face. We often hear about what we are not doing well, I believe that in part this is because we are so critical of ourselves in our desire to strive for excellence. I want you to know that you are doing amazing things and it is an honor to serve with you. I look forward to seeing you in the Fleet.
