Chief Secretary tours Baramulla, Kupwara, listens to people, reviews dev activities BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 26: Taking administration virtually to the doorstep of people, Chief Secretary, Muhammad Iqbal Khanday today visited Baramulla and interacted with people from different sections of the society. In separate meetings, he sought their feedback about working of the administration and listened to their demands. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Shailendra Kumar also accompanied the Chief Secretary. Deputations from Beopar Mandal, Baramulla led by President, Ishfaq Ahmad Qazi, Auqaf-e-Islamia, Baramulla led by Abdul Rehman Shalla, National Conference, Baramulla led by Ghulam Hassan Rahi, Congress, Baramulla led by Mir Mushtaq Nowshehri met the Chief Secretary and apprised about various issues. The deputations brought to his notice day to day problems being faced by the people and sought their redressal especially strengthening of staff at District Hospital Baramulla, decongestion of old town, availability of timber and firewood during winter months, rationalization of power curtailment schedule and billing besides, distribution of ration as per 2011 census among consumers, sanitation facilities in the town and beautification of Jhelum banks in the town. A deputation of Traders Federation, Sopore also met the Chief Secretary and demanded early completion of Sopore Bye Pass bridge, completion of Sopore hospital, beautification of the town, shifting of bus stand, shifting the present waste dumping place near schools and identification of a new place for dumping solid waste, construction of a mini secretariat and providing more space to girls higher secondary school. The Chief Secretary listened to the demands patiently and disposed off many of them on the spot. He directed the district administration to speed up the works in the district so that the benefits get percolated down to masses and the desired results are achieved. Later, Chief Secretary reviewed the pace of developmental activities in the District at an officers meeting. Taking sectoral review, Mr. Khanday asked the District administration to redouble their efforts to increase the literacy rate in the District. He said this year elaborate arrangements have been made to provide hassle free power supply to the consumers adding a transformer bank has been established at Pampore and one each would be set up in North and South Kashmir to reclaim and repair the non-functional transformers during winter months. He asked for publicizing power curtailment schedule as well. In view of the coming winter, the Chief Secretary directed for preparation of action plan for snow clearance well in advance. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to convene meeting of all Municipal Committees to chalk out a snow clearance plan. He also directed for ensuring adequate availability of timber and firewood to the people. Mr. Khanday reviewed the execution of Public Services Guarantee Act in the district and directed for holding awareness camps and workshops for the purpose. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Mr. G. A. Khawaja gave a resume of the activities in the district. He said 35 bridges of various categories are under execution in the district and soon many of them are likely to be commissioned as well. He said 264 Water Supply Schemes are operational in the district and 131 schemes have been included under NRDWP for funding. Later, Mr. Khanday visited Kupwara and held similar meetings with district administration and members of civil society there. SDMs of Uri and Sopore, several heads of Departments and district officers were present in the meeting.
