ATIKU ABUBAKAR GCON (TURAKIN ADAMAWA)TO WITHDRAW HIS APC PRESIDENTIAL TICKET ASPIRATION IN FAVOR OF GEN. MUHAMMADU BUHARI (RTD) GCFR. SIR, While we cannot fault the fact that it is both your moral and constitutional right base on your eligibility to vie for the highest position in the land, we equally believe that both moral and constitutional rights, and the beauty of democracy were never said to be an obligation that must be exercised in this regard, more so when and where indisputable worth and popularity, merit and unbeatable track record of someone else aspiring for same position as Gen. Buhari (rtd.) are anything to go by base on genuine national interest. We strongly believe that, there is always best among the best by all standard and yardstick. If the whole idea is to render selfless service as oppose to self-serving, we believe you will see reason in the points highlighted below, and accept our sincere and honest call to you sir, so as to do more service politically to yourself, our great party, posterity and the nation in general. Gen. Buhari has demonstrated his indisputable worth and merit politically in 2011 general elections, when he scored 12 million votes under his relatively new formed party of only nine months old with no single councilor, chairman, state or national assembly members, or governor to mobilize support for him. Both you and Gen Buhari have contested in 2007 with you having the advantage of contesting under a solidly structured then AC, in addition to your material muscles, yet Gen Buhari goes far ahead of you in the outcome of that result by over 5 million votes. Many Nigerians of northern axis, millions perhaps, believe BUHARI to be their party, their politics, and the ONLY reason why they will vote. We believe, your honorable and voluntary withdrawal in favour of BUHARI, will increase APC chance of winning the 2015 presidential election, and brighten your future political endeavors in the region. With due respect sir, election cannot take place between you and General Buhari, without the later winning with a very wide margin. This is evident from the conduct of most party executives/election delegates and aspirants from many states, where they mobilized supporters to raise funds to purchase the party’s pricey nomination form for General Buhari, for no reason other than to have sense of belonging in the stake holders of General Buhari’s ascending to presidency. A typical example is what happened in Bauchi on the 11th October, where a volunteer group mobilized for a grand rally in support of Buhari, but all the party executives, all the governorship, senators, and members of NASS aspirants, where either present to pledged their support or have sent their representatives together with their monetary donations in support of Gen Buhari candidature. None of the aspirant ever printed his campaign posters or billboards without merging his picture with that of Buhari, equally none has ever produced his own campaign posters with your picture, this and many other examples is to tell you Bauchi and most states are for Buhari, and conducting elections between you and him will be nothing more than a formality. Sir, if saving the nation suffering masses from an over a decade old PDP’s misrule on one hand base on genuine national interest having the wherewithal to do so is the guiding principle of your general politicking and coming to APC in particular, of which we believe it is. And on the other hand if you believe indisputable worth and merit based on the unbeatable track record of conduct, matters so much of which we believe you, we are certain you will see reasons in our call. We have welcomed the selfless gesture portrayed by one of our party leaders Alh Dr Bukola Saraki, for withdrawing his presidential bid, to save the party from the disputes and parity usually caused by primary election. We will not conclude without commending the statement credited to Kano state governor Alh. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, where the governor seeks the party leadership to adopt one of the constitutional provisions of the party, when choosing the presidential flag bearer, that is through consensus, and not primary election considering the dangers pose by primaries. May, God Almighty guide your decision, thank you Sir.
